The architectural task was to construct a building for a collection of modern Croatian and Bosnian and Herzegovinian art of a Franciscan, Professor Stjepan Pavić. The collection includes over seven hundred paintings and sculptures, of which one hundred and eighty were chosen for the permanent exhibition to be placed in the gallery building. This reduced number relied on the supreme quality of the exhibits, the readability of the selection, the expressive features of individual works and as free as possible space for interpretation of their inter-relations.
